Room Parents

A Room Parent is a parent or guardian volunteer who acts as a bridge between the teacher and the rest of the classroom families. Think of them as the teacher's right hand and social coordinator for the rest of the class and family community. At Country Parkway, many classrooms have co-Room Parents to share the role and support one another with tasks.

While teachers focus entirely on instruction and classroom management, a Room Parent helps handle the logistics of classroom community-building. This may include sharing contact information with other families, coordinating teacher appreciation gifts, assisting with fundraisers, and rallying & organizing in-class volunteers for various tasks and celebrations.

Each teacher handles things a bit differently, but typical duties may include:

• Communication Hub: Help the teacher share important announcements, volunteer requests, or supply needs with other families (often via email or group texts). Room Parents also help communicate PTA news about upcoming events and volunteer opportunities.

• Party/Event Planning: Help recruit volunteers for seasonal celebrations (i.e., Halloween, Valentine’s Day, or end-of-year parties) and coordinate parent donations for snacks, games, or craft supplies.

• Teacher Appreciation: Collect contributions (monetary or otherwise!) for teacher gifts and Teacher Appreciation Week in the spring.

• Field Trip Support: Chaperone off-campus field trips (if requested) and/or help coordinate additional chaperones.

• Financial Tracker: Document donations and expenses toward gifts and/or fundraisers.

• Yearbook Submissions: Upload classroom photos shared by the teacher via Seesaw to the PTA Yearbook photo link.

• Welcome New-to-CP Families: Serve as a liaison for a new classroom family to answer questions, support them and make them feel welcome as they adjust to their new building.

• An Insider’s View: You get a first-hand look at your child’s daily school environment and a deeper understanding of how their classroom operates.

• Connecting with the Teacher: Our teachers deeply appreciate support, and having a close, collaborative relationship with your child’s teacher can make the entire school year smoother.

• Built-in Community: It's one of the fastest ways to get to know other parents in the grade and build friendships with the families your child is growing up alongside. You may also have opportunities to build connections with the students in the class and be seen as a "bonus" classroom helper!

• Stay In the Know: As a Room Parent, you are one of the first to know about upcoming school and PTA events, programs, and opportunities.
